I like recipes with a story. This recipe came from my mother-in-law who got this from her Mimi. The original recipe was made from a 5 gallon tub of pickles. Don't you worry - it has been scaled down for you :)
Here's what you need:
32oz jar of hamburger sliced dill pickles
2 cups of sugar
6-7 heaping tsp of minced garlic
2 Tbs of Tabasco sauce
I bought a 62oz jar of pickles at Walmart and decided to make 2 jars using two of my quart canning jars. Just follow the same recipe for a single jar.
Step 1: Drain Pickles
Drain your pickles in a strainer for at least an hour. Do not throw away the jar.
Step 2: Mix Pickles
In your original jar, put in garlic and Tabasco sauce. Place a layer of pickles on top of the sauce mixture. Then add 1/2 cup of sugar. Cover and shake. When the volume goes back down, add more pickles, top with 1/2 cup of sugar, cover and shake. Repeat this until all the sugar and all the pickles are added.

Step 3: Rotate Pickles
For the next 5 days, turn pickles 180 degrees each day. I like to place the jar in a bowl so when the jar is upside down just in case it leaks. At the end of day 5 refrigerate! That's it!
These are really good - sweet and spicy. Thank you Mimi for passing on such a great recipe!
