So my parents so graciously saved some of their older, but gently used furniture for us when they packed up their home and moved west. We got several pieces and one is the china cabinet. It really has been a great piece because it matches the dining room table we also got from them.
Only problem? It screams 70s. Not that there's anything wrong with that :) But, I got an idea after reading a blog called the Handmade Home. She had great ideas of ways of updating older furniture without having to paint them.
So, I thought - this is going to be easy! So, we took of the pulls and handles and went to Home Depot. In the back of my mind I knew that it probably wasn't going to be that easy. And it wasn't. Since it was the 70s nothing matches anything current.
So we're back the the drawing board for a bit. Think we're going to have to get backplates for them to cover the existing holes. A work in progress for sure! And I also like the idea of getting some fabric to cover the back behind the plates, just to brighten and freshen it up. We'll see. I'll update when progress is made!
